Exporting AI-Generated Documents from Project Assist & Crunchview Chat
Last updated: July 16, 2026
Background
Export allows you to download AI-generated outputs — submittal logs, notice letters, scope matrices, and more — directly as formatted Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, or Word documents. Rather than copying and pasting from the chat window and losing structure, you can go from question to finished deliverable without leaving Document Crunch. The file downloads ready to use, preserving tables, columns, and formatting exactly as generated.
Things to Consider
Artifact export is available in both Project Assist and Crunchview Chat
Supported export formats are .xlsx (Excel), .pdf, and .docx (Word)
There is no in-chat preview — you must download the file to see the final output
Exports use standard Document Crunch formatting; company letterhead, branding, or custom templates are not applied automatically
You cannot re-upload an edited file back into chat — all changes must be requested through conversation
Exports are limited to approximately 90 pages of content per request; break large requests into smaller chunks (e.g., by division) if needed
Output quality depends on prompt specificity — vague prompts across large document sets will produce variable results
Exports cannot be sent directly to Procore, Autodesk, or other project management systems; you will need to download and upload manually
Steps
Option A: Request an export as part of your original prompt
Open Project Assist from the navigation bar or project dashboard, or open Crunchview Chat while viewing a crunched document.
Ask the agent to generate content in a specific format from the start. Examples:
"Create a submittal log for Division 3 from the project specs as a spreadsheet"
"Write me a notice letter for a weather delay as a Word doc — ask me any questions based on the contract before generating"
"Build a warranty matrix for this spec and give me a PDF"
The agent generates the content and provides a download button alongside the response.
Click the download button. The file saves to your device in the requested format.
Tip! For best results when prompting for an export:
Be specific about which documents or divisions to pull from
Define the columns or sections you want included
Scope your request to avoid hitting the ~90-page output limit (e.g., request one division at a time for large spec sets)
Option B: Export an existing chat response
Ask a question in Project Assist or Crunchview Chat as you normally would.
Once you have a response you want to keep, ask the agent to export it. Example:
"Give me that as a PDF"
"Export that table as a spreadsheet"
The agent generates the file and provides a download link.
Click to download.
Tip! The agent may occasionally offer a download proactively when a response lends itself to export (e.g., after generating a table). Best practice is to ask explicitly for the format you want rather than waiting for the agent to offer.
Option C: Iterate in chat first, then export
Ask for your content (e.g., "Build a scope cleanup matrix for Division 8").
Review the agent's response in chat. If anything needs adjusting, ask for changes before downloading. Examples:
"Add a column for spec section numbers"
"Remove the Division 1 rows"
The agent updates the output in chat.
Once you're satisfied, request the export. Example: "Now give me that as a spreadsheet."
Click the download button to save the final file.
Note: If you download a file and want changes after reviewing it, return to the chat, describe the adjustments you need, and request a new export. Edited files cannot be re-uploaded for the agent to modify.
